Hampered by hormones?
Improvements in the provision of information and support to men receiving hormone therapy for prostate cancer are urgently needed.
Hormone therapy is a common treatment for prostate cancer. There are a range of side effects associated with hormone therapy that can have a significant impact on the lives of men and their partners.
However, research undertaken by the Charity has found that that over half of men receiving hormone therapy are not receiving enough information and support to help them cope with the impact that these side effects can have on their lives.
"Healthcare professionals do not provide much information, nor do they seem to appreciate the devastating feelings associated with the side effects. Understanding and guidance would be a good start."
The Charity’s research found that the partners of men receiving hormone therapy also need access to information and support to help them cope with the impact their partner’s side effects can have on them.
“…I have lost my soul mate and lover. Now I am just in ‘carer’ mode.”
The Prostate Cancer Charity has launched the Hampered by hormones? campaign, to highlight the experience of men (and the partners of men) who receive the treatment and call on Government and the NHS to improve the care available.
